Course Overview

With 40% mortality at one month and only 25% of patients functionally independent at six months, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating disease in dire need of an effective treatment.

To date, clinical trials investigating a wide range of therapeutic options, including open surgery, aggressive blood pressure control and hemostatic agents, have not demonstrated a marked improvement in outcomes for this patient population, resulting in a dearth of options and, at times, nihilism in care for these patients both locally and across the U.S.

In this program, we will review current evidence and help educate practitioners on the latest interventions for ICH. Attendees will gain strategies for medical and surgical management of ICH along with hands-on training of endoscopic hemorrhage evacuation.

Who Needs This Course?

This course is designed specifically for physicians managing stroke patients, including neurologists, neurocritical care specialists, and neurosurgeons looking to implement or expand minimally invasive techniques in their practice.

Program Objectives

  • Review the natural history, trial data and current treatment options for intracerebral hemorrhage.
  • Discuss medical interventions targeting hematoma growth, ICP control, anticoagulation reversal, seizure management and current state-of-the-art neuro-intensive care for patients with ICH.
  • Explain the evidence behind surgical interventions for ICH and the pros/cons of different techniques for minimally invasive ICH evacuation.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in image-guided endoscopic evacuation of ICH in simulation lab using 3D-printed heads.
